Ukhrul, July 29: The Naga Village Guard–Eastern Command (NVG-EC) on Wednesday strongly condemned the alleged operation carried out by personnel of the CRPF’s CoBRA unit in Bitiang village under Noney district, claiming that the action resulted in the death of one Naga Village Guard (NVG) member and injuries to three others.
In a press statement issued on July 29, the NVG-EC alleged that cadres of the Zeliangrong United Front–Jenchui (ZUF-J) acted in coordination with the CoBRA unit during the operation. The organisation described the alleged collaboration as a “betrayal to the Nagas” and accused the outfit of siding with Indian security forces against fellow Nagas.
According to the statement, the NVG personnel stationed at Bitiang village were engaged in guarding Naga villages against what it described as continued threats from Kuki militant groups. The organisation questioned the rationale behind the security operation, claiming the village guards were acting as civilian volunteers protecting vulnerable communities.
The NVG-EC further appealed to Naga communities to remain vigilant against what it termed the “biased” actions of the CoBRA unit and alleged collaboration with ZUF-J. It also referred to the June 2026 killing of six Liangmai Naga civilians at Leilon Vaiphei, alleging that those responsible had yet to be brought to justice.
Expressing solidarity with the Joint Tribe Council (JTC) and Naga Village Guards across the region, the Eastern Command reaffirmed its commitment to Naga unity and stated that any attempts to create divisions among Nagas would be opposed.
