Ukhrul, July 4: A strong appeal for unity and cooperation was voiced during a press conference held Friday at the Ukhrul Press Club, Wino Tang, urging all parties to set aside differences and support the timely completion of the Shirui Heritage Project.
The contractor and village representatives emphasized that the project is intended for public benefit and should not be hindered by disputes or repeated interruptions. They called on all stakeholders to ensure that the development work proceeds without further obstacles.
Speaking to the media, project contractor Sunny Shimrah stated that the contract was awarded through a lawful tender process announced on February 23 and assigned to BIPL. He noted that construction had already commenced and was progressing well before being disrupted by what he termed “unwarranted interference” from certain quarters.
Shimrah urged authorities to step in promptly to prevent further delays, stressing that the project operates within a fixed timeline and any setbacks would ultimately harm the public interest.
He added that anyone with concerns about the tender process should present valid evidence and pursue legal remedies rather than obstructing work at the site.
Shimrah further explained that multiple RTI applications had already been addressed and that the court had issued stay orders twice regarding the matter. Despite this, he alleged that some individuals continued to interfere with the project’s progress.
To support his claims, Shimrah presented copies of court orders, RTI responses, official DO letters, and documents related to the withdrawal of a petition filed by M/S Nongmaithem Enterprises.
Representing the beneficiary community, Lunghar village Headman Mataisang stated that the village stands to gain significantly from the project. He appealed for cooperation so that the executing agency can complete the work within the designated timeframe and maintain quality standards.
Mataisang emphasized that any disputes over the tender process should be resolved through legal or official channels, including the MLA or Chief Minister, rather than disrupting development work.
He also called on the Ukhrul MLA to investigate the alleged misuse of his name and official DO letter, which he claimed had been cited in attempts to interfere with the project.
Addressing rumors circulating on social media, Mataisang firmly denied allegations that he was acting as a subcontractor under BIPL, describing such claims as unfounded and misleading.
Reaffirming his role as Headman, he stated that his sole objective is to see the Shirui Heritage Project completed successfully, on schedule, and without compromising quality.
He concluded by urging the public and all concerned groups to prioritize collective welfare over personal disagreements, expressing hope that the Shirui Heritage Project will stand as a symbol of unity, cultural pride, and future progress.
The press conference ended with a shared message: “Let Shirui Heritage unite, not divide,” as speakers called for cooperation and mutual understanding to ensure the project benefits both present and future generations.
