KAMJONG, October 16: A team of the Naga Village Guard–Eastern Command (NVG-EC) came under heavy attack allegedly by the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) and Village Volunteers of Eastern Zone (VVEZ) near Huimin Thana along the Indo-Myanmar border under Kamjong Sub-Division on Thursday afternoon, October 15.
According to a press statement issued by the NVG-EC Media Cell on Friday, the incident occurred around 4.30 pm while the team was conducting patrols in and around Tangkhul Naga villages along the international border.
The statement said the NVG-EC team retaliated in defence and repelled the attackers following an exchange of fire that lasted approximately one hour. It claimed that casualties were reported on the attackers’ side, although no details were provided.
A civil defence volunteer of the NVG-EC sustained grievous injuries during the encounter and was rescued with assistance from local residents. He was subsequently taken to Kamjong District Hospital, where he received medical treatment, the statement added.
The NVG-EC further alleged that border villages in Kamjong district have faced repeated attacks since the incidents affecting Z. Choro, Wanglee and Namlee villages on May 7, 2026. It also referred to the September 24 attack at Pilong and the October 10 incident at Ningchou, claiming that four villagers were killed at Pilong and two civilians at Ningchou.
The statement said the series of attacks had claimed the lives of six Naga civilians and resulted in damage to residential houses and other properties across different villages. It accused the authorities concerned of failing to ensure adequate security for border residents.
The NVG-EC warned against further aggression and reiterated its commitment to protecting its land, people and identity. It also called on Naga youths to remain united amid the continuing security concerns along the border.
The claims in the press statement, including the reported casualties among the attackers, were not independently verified in the statement.
