Senapati, October 21: The Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), Senapati, has strongly condemned the repeated attacks on Tangkhul Naga civilians and villages in Kamjong district, Manipur, alleging the involvement of armed cadres of the Kuki National Army–Burma (KNA-B) in association with the Village Volunteers of Eastern Zone (VVEZ), while also raising serious concerns over the actions of the Assam Rifles in civilian-inhabited areas.
In a condemnation statement issued on Wednesday, the NPO expressed grave concern over the continuing violence, attacks on residential settlements and destruction of properties, warning that the deteriorating security situation has left innocent civilians in vulnerable border areas living under persistent fear and uncertainty.
According to the NPO, armed cadres of the KNA-B, allegedly in collaboration with VVEZ, attacked Tangkhul Naga civilians near the Kamjong Police Station gate and Chassad Public Ground between approximately 9 pm and 9:30 pm on October 17. The organisation stated that three civilians sustained serious injuries in the incident.
The NPO also expressed deep concern over reported explosions in residential areas of Kamjong district headquarters involving the 11 Assam Rifles under the command of Colonel Vivek Tripathi. It questioned the necessity and justification of the action in civilian-inhabited areas, alleging that household properties and livestock were damaged and that the explosions exposed residents, including women, children, elderly persons and the sick, to serious risks.
The organisation further stated that images and videos purportedly showing damage to residential properties had circulated widely on social media, calling for an impartial examination of the incidents by the competent authorities.
In another incident, the NPO reported that abandoned residential houses in Skipe and Pilong villages along the Indo-Myanmar border under Kamjong Sub-Division were set ablaze at around 5 am and 5:30 am on October 18. The villages had reportedly been deserted by their residents due to repeated aggression and security threats allegedly attributed to KNA-B cadres in association with VVEZ.
The burning of the abandoned houses, the organisation said, has further intensified the insecurity and uncertainty faced by displaced villagers and raised concerns over the safety of their homes and properties.
Highlighting what it described as a pattern of repeated attacks on Tangkhul Naga settlements, the NPO cited incidents involving Z. Choro, Wanglee and Namlee on May 7; Pilong on September 24; and Ningchou on October 10 this year. According to the organisation, these incidents collectively resulted in the deaths of six Tangkhul Naga civilians.
The NPO also referred to attacks on Huimin Thana and Kherongram, a hamlet of Nampisha village, on July 1, 2026, further underscoring its concerns over the recurring violence affecting Tangkhul Naga communities.
The organisation stated that Tangkhul Naga civil society organisations had repeatedly appealed to security forces and the concerned authorities to ensure the protection of civilian lives, residential properties and vulnerable villages. However, the continued incidents of violence, it said, had raised serious questions about the effectiveness of existing security arrangements.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the response of the authorities, the NPO said the Government of India and the Government of Manipur had yet to demonstrate an adequate and effective response to the security concerns raised by affected villagers.
Emphasising that civilian protection is a fundamental responsibility of the State, the organisation maintained that residents of vulnerable border areas must not be left exposed to violence, displacement and destruction of property.
The NPO urged the concerned authorities to act promptly and decisively to restore public confidence, strengthen security in vulnerable areas, protect affected villagers and prevent further loss of lives and property.
It warned that continued negligence or delays in addressing the situation could further aggravate the already volatile security environment in other parts of Manipur.
