Ukhrul, September 30, 2026: MLA of 44-Ukhrul Assembly Constituency (ST), Ram Muivah, has highlighted the difficulties faced by people in the interior villages of Ukhrul due to inadequate lighting and limited access to emergency ambulance services.
Reflecting on his visits to remote villages, Muivah said he was deeply moved by the hardships faced by communities, particularly those without proper lighting after sunset. He recalled villagers telling him, “When the sun sets, we feel we are blind.”
According to Muivah, the experience prompted him to approach the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) assistance to address the lack of adequate street lighting in the villages. Similarly, the recurring difficulties faced by families in arranging ambulances during medical emergencies led him to seek support for emergency healthcare services.
The initiative has resulted in the launch of 500 solar street lights and five Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances for Ukhrul under an approximately ₹2.23-crore AAI CSR project.
The project was taken up at the initiative of Ram Muivah and implemented by the Ukhrul Football Club (Ukhrul FC).
The initiative is aimed at improving basic public infrastructure in interior areas while strengthening emergency medical transportation for communities across Ukhrul.
Muivah said the initiative was driven by the needs expressed by people during his visits to the villages and his vision of improving access to essential services for communities in the district.
