UKHRUL, AUGUST 7: In a gesture of solidarity and compassion, the Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) on Friday visited the family of a nine-year-old schoolgirl who survived a devastating landslide at Khampasom, Ukhrul, and extended financial assistance to support her recovery.
The TMNL team, led by President-in-Charge Ringphapam Kasar and General Secretary Thotchuingam P. Kasar, along with members of the Executive Council, visited the landslide-affected family and met with the young survivor and her relatives.
The landslide occurred on August 4, 2026, following incessant rainfall, when a massive section of a hillside collapsed onto a building at Khampasom, trapping the occupants beneath the debris.
Among those affected was Yakhari Kasar, a nine-year-old Class IV student and daughter of Chihanso Kasar and Rinchui Jamang of Khangkhui Phungdhar (Khunou) Village. Yakhari was buried beneath the mud, with only her head visible. Neighbours and fellow occupants managed to dig through the debris and rescue her alive.
She was immediately rushed to the District Hospital, Ukhrul, where she received treatment. According to Ringphapam Kasar, Yakhari has since been discharged from the hospital and is currently staying with relatives at Kahumtang, Ukhrul.
During the visit, the TMNL team extended financial assistance to the family and took stock of the young survivor’s present condition.
Ringphapam Kasar further informed that Student Book House, Phungreitang, has donated a textbook and notebook to Yakhari after her school books were buried under the landslide. The Christian Literature Centre, Phungreitang, has also extended support by providing stationery and other essential educational materials to the student.
Expressing appreciation for the support extended to the young survivor, Ringphapam Kasar thanked the Student Book House and Christian Literature Centre for their generous and timely assistance, saying such acts of kindness would help encourage the child as she continues her recovery and education.
