CHAKPIKARONG, October 23, 2026: The Anal Lenruwl Tangpi (Anal Naga Students’ Union) has expressed serious concern over the continued shortage of teaching staff at Chakpikarong Higher Secondary School, alleging that repeated appeals to the authorities have failed to produce any tangible action to address the problem.
In a press release dated October 22, the union said the institution serves as an important educational centre for students from the Anal community as well as neighbouring communities, including the Meiteis and Kukis. The school currently caters to 63 students with only five teaching staff, according to the union.
Highlighting the significance of the institution, the union said the enrolment of 63 students in a government higher secondary school in an area where many parents prefer private institutions reflected public trust and confidence in the school. It expressed concern that the continued shortage of teachers could jeopardise the academic future of the students.
The union recalled that it had met the district authorities on August 27, 2026, to seek a resolution to the issue. Following the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner of Chandel reportedly directed the Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Chandel, to write to the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Chakpikarong (in-charge), for a field inspection and submission of a detailed report on the school.
However, the union alleged that the required field inspection had not been conducted and that no copy of the report had been shared with it as of October 22. It said the alleged inaction had delayed necessary intervention to address the shortage of teaching staff.
Questioning the implementation of the Deputy Commissioner’s directive, the union sought clarification on whether the ADM had failed to formally communicate the instruction to the SDO or whether the SDO had ignored the communication.
The union criticised what it described as administrative negligence and urged the concerned officials to fulfil their responsibilities and ensure that the grievances surrounding the school were addressed without further delay.
Calling for an early resolution in the larger interest of the students, the union appealed to the district administration and other concerned authorities to take immediate steps to address the shortage of teaching staff and safeguard the academic future of students at Chakpikarong Higher Secondary School.
The press release was issued by W.L. Jonah Ningtung, General Secretary of the Anal Lenruwl Tangpi, General Headquarters.
