Imphal, August 19, 2026: The Government of Manipur has ordered the closure of all educational institutions across the state for three days, citing the prevailing law and order situation.
According to an order issued by the Education Department of the Government of Manipur on August 19, all schools affiliated with the Board of Secondary Education Manipur, Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and other boards, along with colleges and higher education institutions including universities, will remain closed from Thursday, August 20, to Saturday, August 22, 2026.
The closure applies to institutions functioning under government, aided and unaided sectors.
The order, issued by the Education Department in the name of the Governor of Manipur, stated that the decision was taken in view of the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
Commissioner-cum-Secretary to the Government of Manipur, Education Department, Ningthoujam Geoffrey, issued the order on August 19.
The Education Department has directed officials concerned, including Directors of School Education, University and Higher Education, SCERT and Social Welfare, to circulate the order to all concerned offices, schools and institutions. Deputy Commissioners and Zonal Education Officers have also been informed.
The three-day closure is expected to affect regular classes and academic activities across Manipur as authorities continue to monitor the law and order situation.
