Ukhrul, September 25 : Hunphun Katamnao Long (HKL), in collaboration with Ura Trust, organised an open competitive examination for students in Ukhrul to promote academic excellence, encourage healthy competition and motivate young learners to prepare for future competitive examinations.
The examination was conducted at three centres—Ukhrul Central School (UCS), Ukhrul Higher Secondary School (UHSS) and Savio Higher Secondary School, Awungtang (SHSS). More than 2,000 students from around 20 schools in and around Ukhrul participated in the examination, with students from Seikhhor village also taking part.

According to the Education Department of HKL, the examination was aimed at assessing students’ knowledge and academic preparedness for competitive examinations while identifying and encouraging academically motivated students. The organisation also expressed appreciation to the participating schools for their cooperation and initiative in sending students to the examination.
The MLA of Ukhrul, Ram Muivah, visited all three examination centres and inspected the conduct of the examination. Speaking during his visit, Muivah expressed happiness over the large participation and encouraged students to focus more seriously on competitive examinations such as those for IITs, IIMs and medical education.
He said that Ukhrul needs more students to pursue prestigious institutions and professional careers, recalling students from the district who have previously entered institutions such as the IITs and IIMs. He expressed hope that the initiative would encourage more students from Ukhrul to compete at national-level examinations.
A Class X student of Ukhrul Central School, W. Shimrah, said the examination went well and welcomed the initiative, saying such examinations could motivate young students to prepare for more competitive exams.
Around 80 students from Pettigrew College were also engaged as invigilators. One of the student invigilators observed that while some students appeared familiar with competitive examinations, many seemed to lack adequate exposure and preparedness. He said conducting such examinations regularly could help students develop greater awareness, confidence and competitiveness.
The student invigilators also thanked HKL and Ura Trust for providing them with an opportunity to participate in the initiative and contribute to the academic development of students in Ukhrul.
