Kangshang, Nov 3: The Maring Students’ Union (MSU) has strongly condemned the reported assault on Mr. TP Kiukamlung, Officer-in-Charge of Machi Police Station, and the alleged intimidation and physical assault of his escort personnel by a group of individuals at Motbung on October 30.
In a statement, the MSU said such acts against a serving police officer undermine law enforcement, threaten public security and erode the trust needed for peaceful coexistence among communities. It said no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands or obstruct free movement.
The Union also expressed concern over continuing reports of violence, threats, abductions and attacks on innocent civilians in different parts of Manipur.
The MSU urged authorities to conduct an immediate, impartial and transparent investigation and take legal action against those found responsible. It also called for adequate security for all travellers on vulnerable national highways.
The Union appealed to all communities to exercise restraint and urged the Governments of India and Manipur to restore peace and normalcy.
“Peace must prevail, justice must be upheld and the dignity of every community must be respected,” the statement said.
