Kamjong, May 6, 2026:
The Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (TAKL), also known as the Southern Tangkhul Students’ Union based in Irong, has strongly opposed a proposed public coordination meeting convened by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kamjong District, scheduled for May 7, 2026.
In an “Urgent Notice of Public Concern” issued from Irong on May 6, TAKL outrightly rejected the meeting, terming it inappropriate given the prevailing situation in the region. The notice refers to the official communication dated May 5, which called for discussions on “peace and development.”
TAKL stated that such discussions are disconnected from ground realities, alleging that Tangkhul Nagas are currently facing aggression from Kuki militants. The organization claimed that key highways remain blocked and that the basic right to free movement has been severely restricted.
“At this critical juncture, discussing peace and development is a mockery of our situation,” the statement said, expressing frustration over what it described as the inaction of both the state government and central forces. TAKL blamed that authorities have remained “silent spectators” instead of ensuring the safety and protection of civilians.
Issuing a stern warning, the student body demanded that the proposed meeting be either postponed or cancelled immediately. It further cautioned that failure to comply would result in the indefinite blockade of all government vehicle movement within it’s jurisdiction.
