Bishnupur, June 13: In a major anti-drug operation, Manipur Police seized 26 soap cases of suspected heroin from a Tata Gold Sumo bearing registration number AS 11 BC 5395 along Tronglaobi Makha Leikai under Moirang Police Station on Saturday.
According to police sources, the vehicle was intercepted during a frisking and checking operation, leading to the recovery of the contraband concealed inside the four-wheeler. Preliminary investigation suggests the seized substance is suspected to be heroin, a narcotic substance often trafficked through the region.
The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Bicky Munda (22), a resident of Charhajare village, Motbung in Senapati District, and a juvenile from Hungpung Village. Both were apprehended on the spot.
Police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source, destination, and possible network behind the consignment.
The seizure adds to the ongoing crackdown by Manipur Police against narcotics trafficking, particularly along key transit routes in the state, as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle drug syndicates operating in the region.
