Mukesh Singh, Director General of Police (DGP), Manipur Police, made his first official visit to Churachandpur District on June 13, where he chaired a series of important meetings aimed at reviewing the district’s law and order situation and strengthening coordination among security forces and civil society groups.
During his visit, the DGP convened a high-level security review meeting with district police officers, officials from the Central Armed Police Forces, and personnel of the Assam Rifles. The meeting focused on the prevailing security scenario in the district, ongoing operations, and the challenges faced in maintaining peace amid the state’s prolonged ethnic tensions and security concerns.
Addressing the officers, the DGP appreciated the collective efforts of all security units deployed in the district for their dedication and commitment in maintaining law and order under difficult circumstances. He particularly praised the district police for their recent achievements in cracking down on illegal activities, including significant drug seizures, the arrest of armed miscreants, and the recovery of illegal weapons and ammunition.
He noted that such operations were crucial not only in curbing criminal activities but also in preventing further violence and instability in the region. Stressing the importance of professionalism and lawful action, the DGP urged all security personnel to remain vigilant and continue carrying out their duties in accordance with the law to ensure lasting peace and security.
Later, Mukesh Singh held an interaction with representatives of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the district. During the discussion, CSO leaders highlighted various public concerns related to safety, law enforcement, and the need for stronger action against anti-social and armed elements operating in the area.
The DGP listened to their grievances and assured them that the concerns raised would be addressed seriously and that all necessary legal measures would be taken to safeguard public interest. He emphasized that cooperation between security agencies and civil society was essential in restoring trust, maintaining peace, and preventing further conflict.
Appealing for unity and collective responsibility, the DGP encouraged CSO members to actively promote peace, dialogue, and communal harmony among all communities in the state. He reiterated that peace-building required the support of every stakeholder, including community leaders, youth groups, and local organizations.
The visit concluded with a brief media interaction, during which the DGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Manipur Police and other security agencies to uphold law and order, protect civilians, and work towards restoring normalcy in the conflict-affected areas of the state. The maiden visit is seen as a significant step in strengthening security coordination and community engagement in one of Manipur’s most sensitive districts.
