Ukhrul, July 22: The Kuki CSO Working Committee (WCKCSOs)-Ukhrul has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the district administrations of Ukhrul, Kangpokpi and Imphal East, demanding immediate intervention to ensure the safe and uninterrupted movement of essential goods to Kuki-Zo inhabited areas.
In a statement released on July 21, the committee alleged that essential commodities transported for Kuki-Zo civilians have been repeatedly confiscated, destroyed, and that drivers have been threatened despite earlier assurances from the district administration to address the issue.
According to the committee, the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul had held a meeting with stakeholders on June 25, during which assurances were reportedly given that such incidents would be prevented. However, the organisation claimed that fresh cases of alleged confiscation have since been reported from Wunghon, Saijang and most recently Sokvao.
The committee also expressed concern over the continued disruption of National Highway-2, stating that the prolonged blockade has made NH-202 the primary route for transporting essential supplies into the state. While claiming that Kuki-Zo communities have allowed escorted convoys to pass through their areas, the organisation alleged that vehicles carrying supplies intended for Kuki-Zo civilians have repeatedly been intercepted, with goods allegedly confiscated and burnt. It further claimed that losses have amounted to nearly ₹10 lakh.
Describing the situation as unacceptable, the committee said the Kuki-Zo community has exercised restraint despite the ongoing ethnic conflict but warned that such restraint should not be mistaken for weakness.
The WCKCSOs has demanded that the concerned district administrations ensure the unhindered movement of essential commodities to Kuki-Zo areas and put an end to the alleged confiscation of supplies within 24 hours.
Failing this, the committee warned that it would enforce a three-day counter economic blockade beginning at 12:00 midnight on July 23, 2026. It added that responsibility for any consequences arising from the proposed action would rest with the concerned authorities.
The allegations made by the WCKCSOs have not been independently verified, and no official response from the district administrations or the Government of Manipur was available at the time of filing this report.
