Ukhrul, August 4: NSCN-IM Ex-Longvibu Gen. (Retd.) Ningkhan Shimray, MC, VC, Co-ordinator of the Indo-Naga Peace Talk, has categorically denied allegations linking him to the assassination of former Arunachal Pradesh MLA Tirong Aboh, describing the claim as “baseless” and politically motivated.
In a clarification issued on Tuesday, Shimray was responding to an allegation reportedly made on July 29, 2026, by A. Raman, the newly appointed Longvibu of the Provisional Government (Eastern Flank). According to Shimray, Raman had alleged that Tirong Aboh was assassinated on the directive of the then Longvibu of the Naga Army.
Rejecting the allegation in its entirety, Shimray stated that he neither issued any directive nor had any knowledge of the incident. He asserted that at the time of the assassination on May 21, 2019, all political and military affairs concerning Arunachal Pradesh were administered exclusively under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO/AKO) and were not under the jurisdiction of the General Headquarters (GHQ), Naga Army.
Shimray further explained that the administrative control of Arunachal Pradesh was transferred to the GHQ, Naga Army, only on March 15, 2021, by the Prime Minister’s Office for administrative exigencies. He said an official order dated March 15, 2021, has been attached to substantiate his claim.
“Therefore, I knew nothing and had not issued any directives nor given any orders related to that gruesome assassination incident that had happened on 21st May 2019 because Arunachal Pradesh’s affairs were never under the jurisdiction of GHQ until 15th March 2021,” Shimray stated.
Expressing concern over the allegation, Shimray accused the Provisional Government (Eastern Flank) of resorting to what he described as “cheap smearing campaigns” aimed at damaging the reputation of veteran Naga leaders.
He questioned whether the political vision of the Eastern Flank had “stooped this low” by attempting to tarnish an individual’s legacy through false accusations instead of addressing larger political issues confronting the Naga people.
Appealing for unity, Shimray urged Nagas not to be divided by misinformation and internal rivalries. He called upon all sections to remain united in pursuing the shared aspiration of “one nation, one people,” rather than engaging in campaigns that deepen internal divisions.
