Kohima, August 17: A delegation of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), led by Vice President and In-charge of the Manipur State Unit, Vipopal Kintso, visited Makhan Village on August 10 and met displaced Naga families sheltered there.
The delegation included NPF Vice Presidents Kekongchim Yimkhiung and Angyie Konyak. The shelter is currently accommodating more than 200 displaced persons, including the wives and children of six Nagas who, according to the party, were allegedly killed by members of the Kuki community.
Expressing deep anguish over the condition of the displaced families, the NPF said it was particularly disturbed by accounts surrounding the deaths of the six men. The party condemned what it described as a “heinous crime” and called for those responsible to be brought to justice.
The NPF further expressed concern that more than three months had passed since the killings, while alleging that no tangible action had been taken despite the names of persons allegedly involved in the abduction being submitted to law-enforcement authorities.
The party demanded immediate and expedited legal action against all those responsible, warning that failure to ensure justice could erode public confidence in the government and the administration of law.
The NPF also appealed to the Manipur Government to provide relief and rehabilitation to all people affected by the ongoing unrest in the state in a fair and impartial manner, “without fear or favour.”
At the same time, the party urged the Government of India to demonstrate greater empathy towards the people of Manipur and intervene wisely to help restore peace, stability and harmony in the state.
