Ukhrul, August 21, 2026: The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has strongly condemned the alleged excessive action by security forces against peaceful protesters at Namdilong on Thursday, August 20.
The peaceful sit-in protest at Namdilong was staged demanding justice for the brutal killing of six Liangmai Nagas and two Lanka Naga villagers allegedly by Kuki militants. According to the TNL, the protest was disrupted when security forces, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF), used tear gas and resorted to lathi-charge, leaving four protesters seriously injured.
The injured protesters were identified as Wikhonliu, 36, wife of Phegrongwi, who was among the six persons allegedly killed; Wilobou, 33, son of Masangbou; Chunwibou, son of Paojengbou; and Masenwangbou, 44.
The TNL stated that the peaceful and democratic protest was being attended by members of the victims’ families, friends, well-wishers and representatives of the Naga fraternity when security personnel allegedly fired tear-gas shells and carried out a lathi-charge against the protesters.
The Working Committee further expressed concern over what it described as the State Government’s failure to deliver justice in the killing of six Liangmai Nagas at Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, 2026. It said that despite repeated demands for justice and the expiry of the over-one-month period announced for the arrest of the perpetrators, the culprits have yet to be brought to justice.
The TNL also questioned the alleged links of individuals associated with the Leilon Vaiphei area to political and administrative circles, stating that such circumstances have raised concerns over the lack of progress in the case.
Condemning the action at Namdilong, the TNL Working Committee said it would not compromise its stand or solidarity with the victim families of Konsakhul and Lanka Naga villages. It also reaffirmed its support for the cause of the Liangmai Nagas and solidarity with the position of the United Naga Council (UNC) on the prevailing situation in the hills of Manipur.
