Tamenglong, August 20, 2026: The Working Committee of the Joint Tribes Council Manipur (JTCM), representing the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme communities, has announced an immediate restriction on the movement of goods-laden trucks and vehicles along National Highways passing through JTCM territories in the Zelianrong-Inpui areas.
According to a declaration issued by the Working Committee on August 20, the restriction will remain in force until further notice. The committee said the decision was taken in response to what it described as the government’s failure to adequately address recent incidents affecting the safety and security of Naga communities.
The statement referred to injuries sustained during a protest at Namdilong in Kangpokpi district on August 20 and also raised allegations concerning the abduction and killing of six Naga men, including two pastors, who were reportedly abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13. The committee said the bodies were recovered on June 10 following a search operation and expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of the investigation.
The Working Committee also questioned the conduct of security operations in the state, alleging that security agencies had taken action against members of the Naga Village Guard while failing to prevent attacks on Naga villages. These claims are part of the committee’s statement and have not been independently established in the document.
JTCM has appealed to area coordination committees to observe the restriction peacefully and maintain solidarity. The committee further warned that it may intensify its agitation if, in its assessment, the government continues to disregard the safety, security and dignity of the Naga community.
