Senapati, August 24, 2026: The Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), Senapati, has expressed concern over what it described as repeated incidents involving Taphou Kuki village and called for an objective investigation into the circumstances surrounding the burning of two buildings.
In a press release issued on August 24, the NPO said one residential building belonging to a Poumai Naga was reportedly set on fire, while an abandoned building at Taphou Kuki village was also reportedly burned by unidentified persons around the same time.
The organisation further alleged that personnel of the fire brigade were obstructed by villagers at Taphou Kuki while attempting to reach the site and extinguish the fires. The NPO questioned the circumstances surrounding the simultaneous burning of the two structures and sought clarification regarding the allegations being levelled against the Naga community.
The NPO urged law-enforcement agencies to closely monitor such incidents and conduct impartial investigations so that those responsible are identified and dealt with according to law.
The organisation also appealed to all concerned to exercise restraint amid the prevailing tensions. While expressing frustration over what it called repeated targeting and blaming of the people of Senapati, the NPO said the restraint maintained by the Naga people should not be interpreted as weakness.
The statement concluded with a call for authorities to take timely action and prevent further incidents that could aggravate tensions between communities.
