Imphal, August 31: Nine Naga legislators from Manipur have jointly submitted an urgent appeal to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking immediate intervention and action over the continuing violence and killings in the state.
In a letter dated August 29, 2026, the legislators expressed deep concern over the prevailing situation in Manipur and said the ongoing crisis had reached a “critical and volatile stage,” with serious consequences for public life.
The signatories urged the Union Home Minister to take what they described as decisive and immediate action to restore peace and normalcy in the state.
Among their key demands, the legislators called for the immediate arrest of Kuki-Zo leaders whom they alleged had publicly claimed responsibility for the killing and dismemberment of six Naga citizens.
They also sought action against Thangboi Kipgen of KNF-P, making allegations concerning his involvement and that of individuals associated with him in the killings and mutilation of the six victims. The letter further called for an investigation into allegations concerning Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, including claims that her office was connected to the activities of her husband, Thangboi Kipgen.
The legislators also demanded the immediate abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement with Kuki militant groups, citing what they described as repeated violations and acts of violence against civilians.
Referring to recent incidents of violence, the signatories expressed concern over the killing of civilians in the IT Road ambush on August 27, as well as other alleged attacks in different parts of the state.
The legislators warned that unless the government initiated the actions sought in their appeal, they would find it difficult to defend or adequately respond to the concerns and challenges raised by the public regarding their continued support for the Government of Manipur.
They said the appeal was being made in the larger interest of the people of Manipur and urged the Union Home Minister to provide decisive leadership in restoring peace and normalcy.
The appeal was signed by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, Awangbow Newmai, MLA, J. Kumo Sha, MLA, Dinganglung Gangmei, Chairman of HAC, Khasim Vashum, MLA, Leishiyo Keishing, MLA, Janghemlung Panmei, MLA, Ram Muivah, MLA, and SS Olish, MLA.
