UKHRUL, October 12, 2026: St. Joseph College, Ukhrul, inaugurated its College Week 2026 at the college campus on Monday, with Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Uppuluri Chaitanya, IAS, attending as the chief guest and officially declaring the five-day celebration open.
The event aims to provide students with opportunities to showcase their talents, develop leadership qualities, strengthen friendships and promote unity through various academic, cultural and sporting activities. College Week also serves as a platform for students to explore their interests beyond the classroom and learn valuable life skills through participation and healthy competition.

Addressing the students, the Deputy Commissioner encouraged them to actively participate in the celebration, describing college life as a unique phase that offers experiences beyond formal education. He observed that while school provides students with basic discipline and fundamental knowledge, and professional life brings greater responsibilities, college offers a special opportunity to understand the wider world while enjoying greater freedom to explore, interact and learn.
He emphasised that college brings together students from different backgrounds, communities, villages and religious traditions, allowing them to set aside their differences, work together and build meaningful relationships. According to him, activities such as College Week help students discover hidden talents, develop confidence, improve coordination and learn how to manage challenges under pressure.
The Deputy Commissioner also noted that extracurricular activities play an important role in shaping students’ personalities and preparing them for future responsibilities. Encouraging students not to remain mere spectators, he urged them to participate wholeheartedly, make the most of their college years and explore their potential through the various events. He concluded by wishing the students an enjoyable and memorable College Week.

In his welcome address, Fr. Dr. Parvis John highlighted the importance of College Week in imparting lessons that extend beyond the classroom. He said the celebration provides students with opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, discipline, creativity, respect and perseverance, qualities that are essential for personal growth and success in life.
He encouraged every student to participate enthusiastically, uphold the spirit of fair play, encourage fellow participants and respect one another, regardless of the outcome of the competitions. He further urged students to reflect the core values of St. Joseph College integrity, responsibility, mutual respect and service—in their conduct throughout the celebration.
Expressing his hope for the event, Fr. Dr. Parvis John said College Week 2026 should strengthen unity among students, bring out the best in each participant and leave everyone with cherished memories and lasting lessons.
The College Week competitions are being conducted among four houses, Viking, Olympian, Spartan and Samurai, with students competing in various events to demonstrate their abilities, creativity, teamwork and sportsmanship.
The competitions include flag competition, duet and trio performances, choir, Western dance, solo performance, extempore speech and cultural dance. These events are expected to provide students with a platform to express their talents, build confidence, appreciate cultural diversity and develop a spirit of healthy competition.
The five-day celebration is expected to bring together students, faculty and staff in a shared spirit of participation and fellowship. Beyond the competitions, College Week seeks to create an environment where students can learn from one another, develop new skills and strengthen their sense of belonging to the college community.
