SENAPATI, October 12, 2026: The Naga Women’s Union (NWU) has strongly condemned the reported beheading and mutilation of civilians in Makui Ashang and Tapon villages on October 10, describing the incidents as horrific acts of violence and calling for immediate government intervention and accountability.
In a press release dated October 12, the NWU condemned the beheading of Ajinbou Ringkangmai of Makui Ashang village, describing it as one of the cruelest forms of violence against civilians. The Union expressed deep concern over what it termed a recurring pattern of violence involving the deliberate mutilation of human bodies, saying such acts violate human dignity and the sanctity of human life.
The Union also condemned the reported killings of Dibambou Ringkangmai, Machungamang Daimai and Ramningpou Gangmei in Makui Ashang and Tapon villages on October 10. It further condemned the reported killings of Ngachanso Ningshen and Leishishan Leishadang of Ningchou village in Kamjong district on the same day.
The NWU stated that beheading and mutilation cannot be treated as ordinary acts of violence, asserting that no political demand, illegitimate claim, ethnic hostility or armed confrontation can justify such treatment of human beings. It stressed that the protection of civilians and respect for the dead must remain fundamental principles even during armed conflict.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, the Union supported the demand of the Working Committee, JTC-Manipur, for the immediate return of Ajinbou Ringkangmai’s head so that his family could perform the final rites and accord him a dignified burial.
The NWU called upon the Government of Manipur and the Government of India to investigate allegations concerning armed groups operating under Suspension of Operations (SoO) arrangements and take appropriate action wherever violations are established. It said the gravity of the incidents demanded a response proportionate to the suffering of the victims and the legitimate concerns of their communities.
The Union urged the governments concerned to intervene promptly and decisively to prevent further incidents of beheading, mutilation and the killing of civilians. It warned that leaving such acts unchecked and unpunished could create a grave risk of further violence and allow perpetrators to continue acting with impunity.
The NWU maintained that the deliberate mutilation and beheading of civilians may constitute serious violations of international humanitarian law, including war crimes where the applicable legal criteria are met, and said such acts must never be tolerated or normalised.
Reiterating its condemnation, the Union called for impartial investigations, accountability for those responsible and action to address failures to protect innocent lives. The press release was issued by the Information and Publicity Cell of the Naga Women’s Union.
