Tribal Youths Council Manipur (TYCM), Council Headquarters, has welcomed the latest initiative taken by the Tribal Affairs & Hills Department, Government of Manipur, towards operationalising the long-awaited Tribal Girls’ Hostel at Old Lambulane, Imphal, for the upcoming academic session 2026-27.
In a press communique issued under reference No. TYCM-CHQ/MID/15/2026 from Imphal on May 10, the council expressed sincere appreciation to Rangnamei Rang Peter, Director of Tribal Affairs & Hills Department, Government of Manipur, for materialising the assurance he had given during a meeting with TYCM leaders on March 26, 2026.

According to the communique, during the meeting held between the department and TYCM representatives, the Director assured the student body that the Tribal Girls’ Hostel at Old Lambulane would begin functioning from June 2026 in time for the new academic session. TYCM stated that the assurance has now started taking shape with the issuance of an official notification dated May 4, 2026 inviting Request for Proposal (RFP) for the operation and management of the hostel facility.
The council described the move as a significant and positive step towards addressing the long-standing accommodation challenges faced by tribal girl students from various hill districts of Manipur who come to Imphal for higher education. TYCM pointed out that many students have been compelled to stay in rented houses and private accommodations under difficult conditions due to the absence of a dedicated government hostel facility.
The organisation further recalled that TYCM had been consistently pursuing the matter with the Government of Manipur since August 2025, urging the authorities to operationalise the Tribal Girls’ Hostel at the earliest in the interest of tribal students, particularly girl students pursuing studies in colleges and educational institutions located in Imphal.
TYCM stated that the opening of the hostel would not only ease the financial and accommodation burden faced by students and their families but also provide a safer and more secure environment conducive to academic learning and personal development.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress made, the council acknowledged the responsiveness and commitment shown by the Director of Tribal Affairs & Hills Department towards the welfare and educational needs of tribal students.
The communique also carried a message of goodwill and prayer for the Director. TYCM prayed that Almighty God may continue to bless Rangnamei Rang Peter with wisdom, success, and good health in the discharge of his responsibilities and also bless his family members.
The statement was issued by the Media & Information Department of Tribal Youths Council Manipur Council Headquarters, Imphal.
