Imphal/New Delhi, May 22: Senior IPS officer Mukesh Singh, a 1996-batch officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been deputed to the Manipur cadre for a period of three years, according to an official order issued by the Government of India.
The decision was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), through an order dated May 21, 2026.
As per the official notification, the Ministry of Home Affairs had proposed the inter-cadre deputation of Shri Mukesh Singh, IPS (AGMUT:1996) from the AGMUT cadre to the Manipur cadre. The proposal was approved by the ACC “in relaxation of the conditions of inter-cadre deputation and waiving off the mandatory cooling-off period after Central Deputation as a special case in public interest.”
Mukesh Singh is no stranger to Manipur, having earlier served as the Director General of Police (DGP), Manipur, during one of the most sensitive and challenging periods in the state’s recent history. Widely recognised for his firm policing approach and strategic handling of law and order situations, Singh played a key role in overseeing security operations, counter-insurgency efforts, anti-drug campaigns and policing reforms in the state.
During his previous tenure in Manipur, Singh was involved in strengthening coordination between state police, central armed forces and intelligence agencies amid evolving security challenges. His leadership was particularly visible in tackling insurgency-related concerns, organised crime, drug trafficking and maintaining law and order during volatile situations.
An officer of the 1996 IPS batch, Mukesh Singh belongs to the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre and has held several senior assignments in policing and internal security over the course of his career.
Officials believe Singh’s return to the Manipur cadre comes at a crucial time, as the state continues to navigate complex security and administrative challenges.
The ACC order has been forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Prime Minister’s Office, Cabinet Secretariat and other concerned departments for further necessary action.
