Kamjong, October 1, 2026: The International Day of Older Persons 2026 was observed at Ramrei Community Hall in Phungyar Block, Kamjong district, on Thursday, with active participation from senior citizens and local communities.
The programme was organised by the District Social Welfare Office, Kamjong, in association with the District Administration, Kamjong, to recognise the important role of older persons in society and highlight concerns related to their welfare, including healthcare accessibility, financial security and social isolation.
An interaction session was held with the elderly participants, focusing on their welfare, care and overall well-being. The session provided an opportunity for senior citizens to share their experiences and concerns.
Around 100 senior citizens, including village headmen, Village Resource Persons and local villagers, attended the programme. Gifts and tokens of appreciation were also distributed to the participating senior citizens.
In connection with the International Day of Older Persons, the District Social Welfare Office, Kamjong, also organised similar programmes in various villages under the Phungyar and Kasom Khullen Blocks, with the participation of senior citizens.
The observance aimed to promote greater recognition, care and support for older persons and to encourage communities to ensure their dignity and well-being.
