IMPHAL, October 14, 2026: The Meitei Alliance has condemned the continuing violence, killings of civilians and destruction of homes and livelihoods in Manipur, particularly in the hill districts of Liangmai and Tangkhul Naga areas, and called on the Centre and the state government to take immediate measures to protect vulnerable communities and restore peace.
In a press statement issued on October 13, the alliance expressed concern over recent incidents in Kamjong, Kangpokpi and Ukhrul districts, including the reported killing of Naga civilian Ajinbou Ringkangmai. The organisation alleged that he had been beheaded and said his severed head remained unaccounted for.
Describing the incident as an act of extreme brutality, the alliance demanded the immediate recovery of his remains and the identification, arrest and prosecution of all those responsible.
The statement also referred to reported cross-border attacks by heavily armed militants allegedly belonging to the Myanmar-based Kuki National Army–Burma (KNA-B), raising concerns over the safety of civilians in vulnerable areas.
Questioning the continued occurrence of attacks despite the presence of Central and State security forces, the alliance said civilians continued to face threats, while villages were being targeted and families were living in fear more than three years after violence erupted in Manipur on May 3, 2023.
The organisation also highlighted the plight of internally displaced persons (IDPs), stating that tens of thousands continued to live in relief camps under difficult conditions, without secure homes, stable livelihoods or certainty about their future.
It expressed concern over the impact of prolonged displacement on children and families, calling for the rehabilitation of affected people and their safe and dignified return to their original homes.
The alliance further criticised political parties and their supporters for what it described as an increasing preoccupation with electoral calculations ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections, while civilians continued to suffer from violence and displacement.
Calling on the Government of India, the Government of Manipur and security agencies to act immediately, the organisation demanded the prevention of further attacks, investigations into alleged security failures and the apprehension of those responsible for the killings, including armed groups reportedly operating across the international border.
It also urged political parties, elected representatives and aspiring leaders to prioritise public safety, justice, rehabilitation and lasting peace over political interests.
“Manipur does not need another round of political promises while its people are being killed and displaced,” the alliance stated, emphasising the need for immediate action and accountability.
The statement concluded with an appeal for collective responsibility and a renewed commitment to protecting the lives and dignity of the people of Manipur.
The allegations and demands outlined above are those of the Meitei Alliance, as stated in its press release dated October 13, 2026.
