Shillong, June 13: In an extraordinary show of unity and grief, Nagas across India held candlelight vigils on Saturday in remembrance of the six Naga men killed in Manipur, sending a powerful message of solidarity and justice.
The vigils stretched from the hills of the Northeast to major Indian cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, where students, scholars, professionals, and elders gathered to honor the victims.
Shillong witnessed a solemn gathering at Khyndailad, Police Bazar, organized by the Naga Elders Forum Shillong, where participants lit candles and offered prayers for the deceased and their bereaved families.
Kohima and Dimapur also saw significant gatherings, with mourners standing in silence, singing hymns, and reflecting on the tragedy that has deeply impacted the Naga community.
Community organizations, student bodies, and Naga diaspora groups joined the movement, emphasizing that the loss of the six men was not an isolated tragedy but a wound shared by the entire Naga people.
Many participants stated that although they had never met the deceased, the sense of brotherhood, identity, and collective suffering was enough to bring them together in one united voice.
