Senapati, September 6, 2026: The Naga People’s Organisation (NPO), Senapati, has hit back at Deputy Chief Minister Smt. Nemcha Kipgen over her response to Deputy Chief Minister L. Dikho’s remarks, questioning her claimed peace efforts and demanding answers over the abduction of 20 Naga civilians and the subsequent killing of six of them. The NPO alleged that Nemcha failed to intervene when her involvement was urgently needed and challenged her to explain what concrete steps she took during the crisis.
In a press release issued on September 6, the NPO said it was “totally surprised” by Nemcha Kipgen’s response and questioned how she could speak of reconciliation and peace while allegedly remaining silent during the abduction of 20 Naga civilians and the subsequent killing of six of them.
The NPO contrasted Nemcha Kipgen’s alleged response with the efforts of Deputy Chief Minister L. Dikho during the period when 14 Kuki civilians were being held, claiming that Dikho faced both public and political pressure and worked through sleepless nights for their release.
The organisation questioned why Nemcha allegedly refused to take calls and switched off her phone when intervention was urgently required for the release of the six Naga civilians.
The NPO said the issue of the abduction of the 20 Naga civilians was already in the public domain, adding that women and children who were allegedly abducted along with their husbands and fathers could serve as witnesses to the incident.
The organisation also questioned what it described as the demand for the arrest of those allegedly responsible for the incident, particularly when identities and alleged involvement of persons connected with the incident had already been made public.
The NPO further challenged Nemcha Kipgen’s statement regarding the number of abducted Naga civilians. According to the organisation, the Deputy Chief Minister had stated that she approached Kuki civil society organisations for the release of 18 Naga detainees.
The NPO, however, maintained that the actual number was 20 and said that 14 people, including a breastfeeding infant, were released through an exchange arrangement.
The organisation also questioned the Deputy Chief Minister’s description of the abducted persons as “detainees”, asking how six of them could subsequently have been killed and their bodies allegedly dismembered and mutilated if they were merely detainees.
The NPO further raised questions over the alleged involvement of KNF-P in the incident and called upon Nemcha Kipgen to explain why she approached Kuki civil society organisations for the release of the Naga civilians, if the involvement of the group was already in the public domain.
Defending Deputy Chief Minister L. Dikho, the NPO said he had explored “all possible means and avenues” to restore peace and normalcy and had visited Kuki, Naga and Meitei areas.
The organisation also pointed to the visit to Litan during the incident, saying MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangshing accompanied Dikho, where they met Naga and Kuki civil society organisations in the presence of MLA Ram Muivah.
In contrast, the NPO questioned what concrete peace and reconciliation initiatives Nemcha Kipgen had undertaken, particularly during the period when her intervention was allegedly urgently required.
The organisation also criticised Nemcha Kipgen for describing Dikho’s statement as “completely false, vexatious and baseless”, saying such a serious assertion should be backed by substantial evidence.
The NPO said the people deserve clear answers rather than denials and reiterated its demand for accountability over the abduction and killing of the Naga civilians.
