IMPHAL, May 2, 2026 – On the eve of the thirdanniversary of the Manipur violence, theThadou Inpi Manipur (TIM), the apex body ofthe Thadou tribe, has issued a public appealfor May 3 to be observed as “Manipur PeaceDay.”
In a media release issued on Saturday by JointGeneral Secretary Manggou Thadou, theorganization urged all Thadou churches andcommunity members to observe Sunday, May3, 2026, as a solemn day of peace and prayer.The body called upon churches to organizeprayer vigils for peace, healing, unity, andreconciliation across the state.
Crucially, the TIM release strongly pushedback against opposing narratives. Noting theemergence of calls by certain groups toobserve May 3 as “Separation Day,” the apexbody reiterated its firm stance on unity.
“TIM reiterates its firm position that peacefulcoexistence and unity among all ethniccommunities are fundamental and cannot bereplaced by any form of separation,” thestatement read, adding that the occasionshould be marked by a “renewed collectivecommitment to peace, harmony, and mutualrespect,” rather than division.
