Senapati, June 29, 2026: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has strongly condemned the alleged excessive use of force by CRPF personnel and Kangpokpi Police against unarmed Naga women protesters at Tonglang along IT Road in Kangpokpi district on June 28.
In a press release issued by its Information and Publicity Wing, ANSAM alleged that the women protesters were subjected to open firing and use of force while they were dismantling a traditional Naga village gate using a JCB. The association said the recovery of fired bullets from the site the following morning has raised serious concerns over the use of firearms against innocent protesters who were exercising their democratic right to demand justice for the six Naga men who were brutally killed and dismembered.
ANSAM questioned the seriousness of the Government, stating that justice remains undelivered while the situation continues to deteriorate. It said the ongoing economic blockade across Naga areas is being carried out in accordance with the collective decision taken under the United Naga Council’s Charter of Demand and will continue until justice is delivered.
The association alleged that the continued silence and inaction of the Government have deepened public distrust and escalated tension between communities. ANSAM said public office carries a constitutional duty to protect citizens and urged authorities to act responsibly during such a crisis.
Referring to the Arms Act, 1959 and service rules governing armed police and paramilitary personnel, ANSAM stated that firearms must be used only in accordance with law and authorised procedures. It warned that any reckless, unauthorised or disproportionate use of firearms should invite criminal prosecution, departmental proceedings, suspension from service, dismissal and other disciplinary action as provided under law.
ANSAM urged the Government and law enforcement agencies to respect the sentiments of the Naga people mourning the deaths of the six slain Naga hostages. It also demanded a swift investigation and prosecution of those responsible for the killing and dismemberment of the victims.
The association further called for immediate implementation of the UNC Charter of Demand and sought assurance from the Government that the constitutional right to peaceful democratic protest will be protected, and that no excessive force will be used against unarmed civilians.
ANSAM also asserted that until the demands under the UNC Charter of Demand are fulfilled and public confidence is restored, armed security personnel should respect the decision of the Naga people. It said security forces and neighbouring communities should not enter Naga villages without prior consent of the respective village authorities in order to prevent further escalation and preserve peace and public order.
The student body said the Naga people have shown remarkable restraint despite immense grief and provocation, adding that their demand is neither unlawful nor extraordinary but a call for justice, accountability and equal protection under the Constitution.
ANSAM reaffirmed that it will continue to stand with the people until justice is delivered and those responsible are held accountable in accordance with the law.
