Imphal/Ukhrul, July 6, 2026: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand has strongly condemned the militant ambush near Nungshangkong in Ukhrul district, which claimed the lives of two Assam Rifles personnel on Monday.
Terming the attack as “heinous and cowardly,” the Chief Minister said such barbaric acts of terror are utterly unacceptable and will never be tolerated.

“I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the heinous and cowardly ambush by militants near Nungshangkong, Ukhrul district, that claimed the lives of two brave personnel of the Assam Rifles today,” the Chief Minister stated.
He extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and paid his highest tribute to the supreme sacrifice made by the personnel in the service of the nation.
“Their sacrifice in the line of duty will always be remembered with honour and gratitude,” he said.
The Chief Minister further asserted that the Government of Manipur remains resolute in its commitment to ensure that those responsible for the attack are swiftly identified, brought to justice, and punished in accordance with the full force of the law.
He added that the state government will not allow such acts of violence to disturb peace, security, and public order in Manipur.
