TNL Working Committee Condemns Ambush on Assam Rifles, Calls for Immediate Inquiry

Ukhrul, July 6, 2026: The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has strongly condemned the ambush on Assam Rifles personnel near Lungshang River along National Highway-202, which resulted in the deaths of two security personnel on Monday afternoon.

In a press communiqué issued from Ukhrul Headquarters, the TNL Working Committee said the ambush was carried out by unidentified miscreants at around 1:45 pm on July 6, 2026. The deceased personnel belonged to the 40 Assam Rifles unit of Shangshak and have been identified as Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Havaldar Chandra Mohan Singh.

Expressing grief over the incident, the TNL Working Committee conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the two deceased paramilitary personnel.

The committee stated that the incident has come at a time when Manipur continues to face a fragile and volatile situation. It described the ambush as a matter of grave concern, adding that such violence seriously jeopardises the ongoing efforts of Tangkhul civil society organisations to restore peace and normalcy in the conflict-hit state.

The TNL Working Committee also urged the concerned authorities to immediately set up an inquiry into the incident and identify those responsible.

It further cautioned against speculation and blame-game, pointing out that no group has so far claimed responsibility for the ambush. The committee said any attempt to polarise the situation without verified facts could sabotage the hard-earned atmosphere of understanding, tolerance and respect among different sections of society.
