Ukhrul, July 11, 2026: The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has questioned the arrest of two persons in connection with the abduction of 18 Liangmai Naga civilians and the subsequent killing of six of them, describing the arrests as “bizarre” and calling for a transparent and thorough investigation.
In a press communiqué issued on Saturday, the TNL Working Committee stated that a combined team of the Manipur Police, National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested Pradip and his wife, Ayingbi alias Mangaih, from Leilon Vaiphei village on July 10.
The arrests were reportedly made in connection with the abduction of 18 Liangmai Naga civilians on May 13, 2026. Six of the abducted men were later killed, and their mutilated bodies were recovered on June 10.
The TNL Working Committee alleged that the arrest of the couple appeared to be a “tactical faux pas” intended to divert public attention from demands for the arrest of those it described as the principal perpetrators involved in the abduction, illegal detention and killings.
The committee further claimed that the physical involvement of Leilon Vaiphei village chief Lalboi Vaiphei alias Khailensang, along with women from the village and armed cadres of the Kuki National Front-Presidential (KNF-P), had been established through accounts given by survivors. However, it alleged that these aspects had remained overlooked by the investigating agencies.
The TNL Working Committee also referred to what it described as a public admission by the Kuki-Zo Council concerning the abduction and killing of the Naga civilians.
Urging the State Government and law enforcement agencies to pursue the case carefully and judiciously, the committee called for truth, transparency and accountability in the investigation.
It maintained that justice must be delivered in the larger interest of the people of Manipur and warned against any action that could weaken public confidence in the investigation.
