Imphal, July 23: The Manipur Government has initiated formal discussions on the proposed establishment of a medical college in Senapati district, with the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) convening a high-level meeting on the project.
According to an official meeting notice issued by the Directorate of Health Services on July 20, the meeting is scheduled to be held at 1 p.m. on July 23 in the chamber of the Director of Health Services, Imphal.
The meeting will deliberate on matters relating to the establishment of the proposed Medical College, Senapati, and is expected to bring together senior officials of the Health Department to discuss the way forward.
Officials directed to attend include Additional Directors Dr. Y. Premchandra Singh, Dr. Somorjit Ningombam and Dr. Ruhinikumar, Joint Directors Dr. Probinchandra Arambam, Dr. U. Jugindro Singh and Dr. Jubilee Wahengbam, Deputy Directors Dr. Manju Kambam and Dr. Th. Gayatri, along with Officers on Special Duty Dr. A. Cecil and Dr. Md. Rafique.
The meeting notice was issued by Director of Health Services Dr. N. Hemantakumar Singh, who also forwarded copies to the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Health & Family Welfare), the concerned officials, and the department’s guard file.
The move marks a significant step toward the long-standing demand for a medical college in Senapati district. If established, the institution is expected to improve access to medical education and strengthen healthcare services for the hill districts and the wider northern region of Manipur.
