Ukhrul, August 11, 2026: The Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul (WCKCSOs-Ukhrul), has announced the lifting of its Counter Economic Blockade and ensuing Total Shutdown along NH-202, with effect from 4:30 PM on August 11, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the committee’s Department of Information and Media, the counter economic blockade had been enforced since July 27, before being intensified into a total shutdown from August 5.
The committee said the measures were imposed in response to what it described as a selective economic blockade targeting Kuki-Zo people by certain Tangkhul and Meitei groups along NH-202. The blockade and shutdown had earlier been reported as affecting movement in parts of Ukhrul district.
The decision to lift the agitation followed a meeting held at Shangkai at 1:00 PM on August 11 between WCKCSOs-Ukhrul and a Manipur Government delegation led by Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam and government spokesperson Thokchom Radhe Shyam.
The committee stated that the government delegation informed it that an agreement had been reached between the concerned Tangkhul and Meitei groups to end the alleged selective economic blockade along NH-202 against the Kuki-Zo community.
A handwritten agreement was also executed between WCKCSOs-Ukhrul and the government delegation, under which the latter reportedly undertook responsibility for ensuring the safety and security of NH-202 and preventing any further blockade or disturbance by any group.
In view of the government’s assurance regarding the free and non-discriminatory movement of essential commodities, WCKCSOs-Ukhrul said it was lifting both the Counter Economic Blockade and Total Shutdown from 4:30 PM on August 11.
The committee appreciated the government’s intervention and said it expected the agreement to be implemented “in letter and spirit,” particularly to ensure that no community is subjected to selective economic restrictions.
Normal movement along the affected areas may resume from 4:30 PM today, according to the statement.
