The Laho Litan Village Authority has released an official press statement addressing widespread misinformation regarding the alleged disruption of a water pipeline at Leingangching Village.
In the statement issued on Wednesday, the authority strongly refuted claims circulating on social media that Tangkhul villagers had deliberately cut off water supply to Kuki villages. It termed such allegations as “false, malicious, and without any factual basis,” urging individuals to refrain from spreading misleading narratives that could escalate tensions in the region.
The clarification further explained that the water supply extended to the Assam Rifles camp within the village was purely on humanitarian grounds and not governed by any formal or binding agreement. The village authority emphasized that the continuation of such support has always been at its discretion.
Providing context to the recent developments, the statement noted that on April 21, personnel from the Bihar Regiment and Assam Rifles reportedly conducted operations in the area. During the operation, incidents of firing were reported, affecting local Tangkhul Naga civilians and leading to the destruction of certain defensive structures. The subsequent cutting of the water pipeline, the authority said, was a reaction by a section of the local population to these events.
The village authority reiterated its rights under customary laws to regulate local resources, including water supply, while highlighting that it has exercised restraint and maintained humanitarian support despite the prevailing circumstances.
Appealing for calm and responsible behavior, the authority called on all individuals and groups to avoid spreading unverified information. It stressed that misinformation could further aggravate an already sensitive situation.
“The cooperation extended by local communities has always been rooted in maintaining peace and stability,” the statement concluded, urging all stakeholders to act impartially and uphold harmony in the region.
