Amid renewed tension in Manipur’s Valley districts and the Naga-dominated Ukhrul district, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh stated that the recent killings and violent incidents have severely derailed the fresh peace process initiated by the newly formed government.
Speaking during the inauguration of development projects in Imphal West alongside Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, the Chief Minister said that peace is the foundation for progress and development, but repeated attacks on innocent civilians have disrupted efforts to restore normalcy in the state.

Referring to the recent violence, including the bomb attack in Bishnupur district that claimed the lives of two children and other civilian casualties, Khemchand Singh described the incidents as a deliberate attempt to destroy the fragile peace and provoke fresh unrest among communities.
He revealed that since April 7, at least 11 people have lost their lives in separate incidents, including five in Meitei-majority Bishnupur district. These incidents, he said, have created fear and mistrust at a time when the government was trying to rebuild confidence and encourage dialogue among all stakeholders.
“The killing of innocent civilians, especially children, is not just a crime but an assault on humanity. Such acts are clearly aimed at destabilizing the government and sabotaging the peace process,” the Chief Minister stated.
He assured that the investigation into the Tronglaobi bomb attack has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and strict action will be taken against those responsible.
Khemchand Singh further said that his government remains committed to restoring peace through consultation, cooperation, and strong administrative action, stressing that development can only take place when peace prevails.
The Chief Minister has also been holding meetings with MLAs and community leaders to address the growing tensions, especially in sensitive areas like Ukhrul, where recent incidents have sparked concerns over security and stability.
The renewed violence has once again placed Manipur under pressure, with both the government and civil society calling for urgent steps to prevent further bloodshed and restore lasting peace.
