Imphal, May 12: The inaugural function of the North Eastern Region (NER) Flying Camp 2026 was held today at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal, marking the commencement of a 10-day National Cadet Corps (NCC) aviation training programme aimed at providing cadets with firsthand exposure to powered flying and aviation operations.

Organised by 1 Manipur Air Squadron NCC, Imphal, the camp began on May 11 and will continue till May 20, 2026, with participation of more than 400 NCC cadets from across the North Eastern Region.
The training programme was formally flagged off by the Additional Chief Secretary (Transport), Government of Manipur, along with the Additional Director General of Police, in the presence of senior NCC officials, aviation personnel, and cadets.
As part of the camp, cadets will undergo Microlight (Virus 80) Familiarization Training using three Virus 80 Microlight Aircraft operated by four experienced pilots. Flying activities are being conducted in both morning and evening shifts, with nearly 50 sorties scheduled daily throughout the duration of the programme.

According to officials, flying operations will mainly be carried out within an 8-kilometre radius of the airport under a carefully coordinated safety and operational framework to ensure smooth conduct of all aviation activities.
The camp is aimed at promoting aviation awareness, discipline, leadership, and technical exposure among the youth, while also inspiring cadets to pursue future careers in aviation and the armed forces.
Officials stated that the initiative reflects a collective commitment towards youth empowerment and nurturing the aspirations of young cadets through practical aviation experience and exposure to air operations.
