Senapati, May 14, 2026: The United Naga Council (UNC) has expressed deep grief and strongly condemned the killing of Wilson Thanga (55), a resident of Dolang Chiru Village, who was killed in an ambush on the evening of May 13 between Joujangtek village and Longsai-1 in Noney district.
In a condolence message issued on Thursday, the UNC alleged that the attack was carried out by suspected Kuki militants and described the incident as a “senseless ambush” against innocent civilians.
According to the statement, Wilson Thanga, son of Late D. Waikan, was returning from Dolang Chiru Village when he was fatally attacked. The council termed the incident an act of “cowardly violence” and said his death has left a deep wound on the collective conscience of the Naga people.

The UNC stated that the killing of an unarmed civilian would remain a painful chapter in Naga history and highlighted the continuing struggle of the Naga people for peace, dignity, and security.
The council also extended prayers and support to Mr. Olive Jatung and Mrs. Aroma Thanga, who sustained critical injuries in the same attack, and wished them a speedy and complete recovery. The statement further praised the courage and presence of mind shown by Olive Jatung during the incident, stating that his actions helped save precious lives.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family and the people of Dolang Chiru Village, the UNC said the Naga people mourn together in this hour of sorrow. The organisation prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and strength for the grieving family to bear the loss.
