The Working Committee (WC) of the Tangkhul Naga Long has strongly condemned the deadly ambush that took place at Joujangtek area in Noney district on May 13, describing the attack as a brutal act of violence against innocent Chiru Naga civilians.
In a statement issued through its Media Cell, the organisation alleged that suspected Kuki militants operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) arrangement carried out the attack when a group of civilians from Dollang Chiru Village were travelling toward their farmhouse.

Among the victims was Wilson Thanga, a carpenter by profession, who was killed on the spot. The driver of the Bolero vehicle and Thanga’s wife reportedly sustained critical injuries in what the TNL termed a barbaric assault.
According to the organisation, the Joujangtek incident marked the second ambush reported on the same day, leaving four persons dead and four others injured. The TNL said the incidents have intensified concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Manipur’s hill districts.
The Working Committee further alleged that armed Kuki groups have increasingly targeted civilians travelling along state and national highways, severely disrupting normal life and creating fear among residents. It stated that free movement along National Highway-202A, the key route connecting Ukhrul and Kamjong districts with Imphal, has remained badly affected for more than three months.
The organisation warned that the latest attack indicates an alarming expansion of violence into other routes across Naga-dominated areas.
Expressing serious concern over what it described as repeated “inhuman excesses,” the TNL questioned the continued silence of both the State and Central governments despite recurring attacks on civilians. It asserted that failure to take decisive action against those responsible could embolden militant elements and further destabilise the already fragile situation in the region.
The TNL Working Committee urged the authorities to immediately implement effective security measures to protect civilians, restore safe movement along highways, and uphold the rule of law impartially.
Reiterating its demand for accountability and justice, the organisation maintained that continued violence against innocent civilians cannot be tolerated under any circumstance.
