Government of West Bengal has given in-principle approval for the formation of the 7th Pay Commission for employees of the state government, various government boards, corporations, state-aided bodies and schools.
The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting held on Monday and is expected to benefit a large number of government employees and staff working under different state-supported institutions across West Bengal.

Officials said the proposed 7th Pay Commission would examine matters relating to revision of pay structures, allowances and other service-related benefits for employees under the state government and affiliated bodies.
In another significant decision, the Cabinet also approved in principle the discontinuation of various Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes being implemented under the Information and Cultural Affairs Department and the Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education Department with effect from June 1.
However, the state government clarified that scholarship schemes operating under these departments would continue and remain unaffected by the latest decision.
The Cabinet decisions are expected to be formally implemented after issuance of detailed government notifications and guidelines by the concerned departments.
