Ukhrul, July 24: The Kuki CSO Working Committee (WKCCSOs–Ukhrul) has announced the temporary relaxation of its proposed counter blockade until July 26, citing ongoing negotiations with government authorities aimed at resolving the prevailing economic crisis.
In a press release issued on Friday, the committee said the decision follows discussions led by leaders of Kuki-Zo civil society organisations from Ukhrul and Kangpokpi. The move comes as part of efforts to create space for dialogue and pursue a peaceful resolution to the ongoing impasse.
According to the statement, a joint meeting held at Kangpokpi on July 24 unanimously resolved to continue engaging with the government through democratic means. The committee said a second round of talks has been scheduled to explore all possible avenues for a “just, honourable and lasting settlement.”
While reaffirming its commitment to dialogue, the committee cautioned that its willingness to negotiate should not be interpreted as a sign of weakness. It warned that if the talks fail to produce a tangible and favourable outcome, Kuki-Zo civil society organisations would have “no alternative” but to intensify democratic forms of agitation to safeguard the rights and interests of their people.
The Working Committee also appealed to the public to remain calm, united and vigilant while awaiting the outcome of the scheduled deliberations. It said the next course of action would be announced after the conclusion of the ongoing negotiations.
