UKHRUL, August 25, 2026: The young generation of Ukhrul is set to become part of a nationwide conversation on India’s sporting future as MY Yuva Bharat Ukhrul, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of St. Joseph College, prepares to host Khelo India Samvaad 2026 on August 27.
The programme, being organised in connection with National Sports Day, is expected to provide students and young aspiring athletes with a rare opportunity to engage with the country’s national sporting vision while also learning from sports personalities from their own district.
The details were announced at a joint press conference on Tuesday. Worchipem AC, Deputy Director, MY Bharat Ukhrul, led the briefing, while Masopam Kasar, Assistant Professor and NSS Programme Officer, St. Joseph College, presented the objectives and programme details.
Khelo India Samvaad 2026 is built around four major themes that place youth at the centre of India’s sporting and development agenda.
These include strengthening the country’s sports ecosystem, identifying and nurturing talent for the 2036 Olympics, encouraging young people to take leadership roles and participate in governance, and empowering youth to contribute to the broader vision of Viksit Bharat.
For students in Ukhrul, one of the most anticipated moments will be the opportunity to connect with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
St. Joseph College will host a Type-A two-way live interaction, allowing students to participate in a direct live engagement. Pettigrew College, meanwhile, will host a Type-B telecast.
But the programme will also highlight the sporting achievements and experience available within Ukhrul itself.
At St. Joseph College, former national football player Reisangmi Vashum will speak with students about his experience in football and competitive sport.
At Pettigrew College, students will interact with Reisangpemmi Kasomwoshi, a well-known football administrator, technical director and co-founder of the Ukhrul Basic Soccer Foundation.
The organisers see these interactions as an important opportunity for students to understand that sporting success can be built not only through talent but also through discipline, commitment, training and access to the right opportunities.
Worchipem described the programme as a significant opportunity for Ukhrul’s youth and encouraged students and aspiring athletes across the district to participate actively.
“This is a great opportunity for our youth to understand where India is heading in the field of games and sports. The two-way live session with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, followed by interactions with our own sports veterans, will provide valuable exposure, guidance and inspiration to young people pursuing or planning a career in sports.”
The programme will also create space for young people to speak for themselves through Yuva Samvaad listening sessions.
Rather than simply listening to speakers, students will be encouraged to share their own experiences, ideas, challenges and aspirations. Their views will be documented and compiled into recommendations that can contribute to broader policy discussions on India’s sporting and youth-development priorities.
This element of the programme could prove particularly important for young athletes who often face challenges related to training opportunities, infrastructure, exposure, guidance and access to competitive platforms.
By bringing these grassroots perspectives into a wider national dialogue, Khelo India Samvaad 2026 seeks to make young people active contributors to the country’s sporting future.
For Ukhrul’s youth, therefore, August 27 will be more than a celebration of National Sports Day. It will be an opportunity to connect local aspirations with a national vision — from the football grounds and educational institutions of Ukhrul to India’s larger ambitions in international sports.
As India looks towards the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision and the ambition of nurturing talent for the 2036 Olympics, the participation of Ukhrul’s youth signals the growing importance of bringing voices from the grassroots into the country’s sporting journey.
