Ukhrul, July 25: The Hungpung Village Administrative Council has lodged a formal complaint with the Officer-in-Charge of Ukhrul Police Station, alleging that four innocent civilians were illegally abducted by personnel of the Assam Rifles while working in their paddy fields on Saturday evening.
According to the complaint, the incident took place at around 5:00 pm near the Cement Factory area of Hungpung Village. The council alleged that the four men were taken into custody without any provocation or suspicious behaviour while attending to agricultural work.
The four individuals named in the complaint are:
- Yuimung Khapai Shimray (28), son of Late Zimiksho Khapai Shimray.
- Shomi Shokchui (38), son of Machangta Shokchui.
- Hungreithei Kasomva (37), son of Noiba Kasomva.
- Khuirami KSV (36), son of Naoba KSV.
In its representation, the Village Administrative Council urged the Ukhrul Police to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter and ensure the immediate release of the four civilians.
The complaint, signed by Ringreikui YR, Chairman of the Hungpung Village Administrative Council, was submitted to the Ukhrul Police Station on July 25, 2026, and bears a police acknowledgment indicating receipt at 8:45 pm the same day.
As of the time of filing the complaint, no official statement had been issued by the Assam Rifles regarding the allegations. The matter remains under public attention, with local organizations and residents closely monitoring developments.
