Ahmedabad, May 31: Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) successfully retained the Indian Premier League (IPL) title after defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets in the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 156, RCB reached 156/5 in 18 overs, thanks to a match-winning unbeaten knock of 75 runs off 42 balls by veteran batter Virat Kohli. He was well supported by Venkatesh Iyer (32) and Tim David (24) as Bengaluru comfortably completed the chase.
Earlier, Gujarat Titans struggled against disciplined RCB bowling after being asked to bat first. Despite an unbeaten half-century from Washington Sundar, GT were restricted to 155/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Rasikh Dar starred with the ball, claiming three wickets, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood picked up two wickets each.
Kohli was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten innings, which guided RCB to their second consecutive IPL crown. The victory marks another milestone for the Bengaluru franchise, which won its maiden IPL title in 2025 and has now successfully defended the championship.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans’ pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada finished the season as the highest wicket-taker with 29 wickets and secured the Purple Cap, while Rajasthan Royals’ teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi won the Orange Cap after scoring 776 runs during a record-breaking campaign.
