Two persons were killed by suspected Kuki militants near TM Kasom at approximately 2:38 PM on Saturday, while traveling from Imphal to Ukhrul.
The deceased have been identified as Hav. SW. Chinaoshang (Retd.), First Naga Regiment (No. 147039341) from Tashar Village, Ukhrul District, Manipur, and Yaruingam Vashum, son of Thuimi Vashum, from Kharasom Village, Ukhrul District, Manipur.
Sources confirmed that the bodies of the two victims have been brought to the District Hospital for necessary formalities.
In addition to the fatalities, at least two individuals sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Their condition is reported to be critical.
Reports also indicate that at least five vehicles in the convoy were damaged during the incident. The victims were part of a group traveling towards Ukhrul when the incident occurred.
The situation has raised fresh concerns over the safety of civilians along the Imphal–Ukhrul route. Security forces are expected to intensify deployment in the area to prevent further escalation.
No official statement has been released by the authorities so far. Further details are awaited.
