OKING, MT. HOREB | October 5, 2026: The Provisional Government of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) has expressed strong reservations over the arrival of the Hebron/NSCN delegation led by Maj. Gen. (retd.) Ramkathing Varah in Eastern Nagalim, accusing the group of attempting to advance its political activities under the banner of peace and reconciliation.
In a press release issued on October 5 from Oking, Mt. Horeb, the NSCN said it was closely monitoring the movements and political activities of the delegation, which has reportedly arrived as part of a “Peace Campaign and reconciliation” initiative involving the Maj. Gen. (retd.) Ang Mai-led NSCN-K/AM and Yung Aung-led NSCN-K/YA factions.
The NSCN said it views the delegation’s claim of promoting peace and Naga unity with “deep political scepticism,” questioning Hebron’s credibility to speak on the broader Naga political issue.
According to the statement, the competencies submitted by the group on January 2, 2020, represented a departure from what the NSCN described as established Naga political principles and broader Naga aspirations. It further asserted that the Naga political issue should not be reduced to an arrangement acceptable to New Delhi or subordinated to constitutional limitations imposed by India.
NSCN raises unresolved killings
The statement also highlighted the killings of four NSCN cadres—Maj. Sochipem Phungshok, Sgt. Major Zairei, Sgt. Bahnle Ahlahpyah and Sgt. Thansomi Vashi—at Hongpei village on March 28, 2026.
The NSCN alleged that Hebron/NSCN has not provided a satisfactory explanation for the deaths and said the unresolved matter has contributed to its scepticism over the group’s latest peace and reconciliation initiative.
“Until such serious matters are addressed,” the statement said, the group’s projection of itself as a harbinger of peace and unity would continue to be viewed with suspicion.
Warns against political activities in Eastern Nagalim
The NSCN also cautioned Naga national workers and members of different groups to remain vigilant against what it described as attempts to exploit the language of peace and reconciliation for political advantage.
It maintained that Eastern Nagalim is “not a political vacuum” and asserted that no organisation should unilaterally establish authority or dictate terms in the region under the guise of peace.
The statement further warned that the NSCN would not accept what it described as Indian political influence through Hebron under the cover of reconciliation.
It said any genuine effort towards Naga unity must be based on political integrity and adherence to what it called the fundamental Naga national principle.
The press release was signed by Mr. Angyo Jacob Tangshang Naga, Political Co-ordinator, Eastern Nagalim, Provisional Government, GPRN.
