Ukhrul District, May 27, 2026: In a major security operation aimed at curbing militant activities and maintaining law and order in the hill districts of Manipur, security forces carried out a search and area domination exercise on May 26, 2026, under the jurisdiction of Litan Police Station in Ukhrul district.



During the operation, security personnel detected and destroyed three illegal bunkers suspected to have been used by armed miscreants. One bunker was located at Patleijang village, while two others were found and dismantled at Roudei village under the T.M. Kasom area.
Security sources stated that the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of illegal fortified structures and hidden arms in the area. The operation was conducted with heightened vigilance amid ongoing security concerns in the hill regions.
In the course of the search operation, the security team recovered several incriminating materials and explosive items from the sites. The recovered items include:
- 01 (one) Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing approximately 5 kilograms,
- 02 (two) pompi guns,
- 02 (two) BAOFENG radio communication sets along with one charger,
- 03 (three) live 12 bore cartridges, and
- 12 (twelve) empty cases of different calibers.
The recovered IED was safely handled by the security personnel following standard operating procedures to prevent any untoward incident. All seized items have been taken into custody for further examination and investigation.
Officials stated that such operations will continue in vulnerable and sensitive areas to prevent unlawful activities and ensure peace and security in the region. Security forces have also intensified surveillance and area domination measures in and around the affected locations.
Further investigation is underway to identify those involved in establishing the illegal bunkers and possessing the recovered arms and explosive materials.
