Ukhrul, September 8, 2026: The Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), through its Working Committee, has strongly condemned the alleged looting and forcible detention of commercial and private vehicles along the Imphal–Ukhrul National Highway 202 (NH-202).
In a press communique dated July 27, 2026, the TNL alleged that on July 27, commercial and private vehicles travelling along the Imphal–Ukhrul NH-202 were halted and searched by armed personnel identified in the communique as Kuki militants. The organisation claimed that the incident occurred despite the presence of security forces deployed along the route, including security personnel on escort duty and at Road Opening Party (ROP) posts.
According to the TNL, more than 40 commercial and private vehicles were allegedly accosted at two locations in the name of enforcing a “Counter Economic Blockade” announced by the self-styled Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul, with effect from July 26, 2026.
The organisation further alleged that passengers and vehicles belongings, including documents, cash, clothes and groceries, were forcibly taken and burned, while some items were allegedly looted.
The TNL said the incident was particularly concerning amid the prevailing conflict, claiming that such actions were worsening economic hardships faced by civilians. It also urged the authorities to ensure the safety and security of people travelling along the highway.
The Working Committee raised five questions concerning the role of the State Police, Central Security Forces, District Administration and the State Government, including why security personnel and ROP teams allegedly failed to protect commuters and their property.
The TNL also questioned why security forces present at the locations allegedly remained spectators to the incident and what preventive measures were taken after the announcement of the “Counter Economic Blockade.”
It further asked whether the State Government would take action against those allegedly involved and whether a series of criminal cases had been registered.
The organisation also questioned whether the State Government intended to remain silent on the alleged perpetrators or would initiate legal action under the existing Suspension of Operation (SoO) framework.
