Ukhrul, June 17: The Working Committee of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) has strongly condemned the security operation carried out at Konsakhul (Konsaram), a Liangmai Naga village, terming it “atrocious, disgraceful and highly condemnable” amid the community’s ongoing grief over the killing of six villagers.
In a press communiqué issued on Wednesday, TNL stated that the operation came at a time when the village was still mourning the brutal deaths of six Liangmai Naga civilians, whose mutilated bodies were recovered nearly a month after their alleged abduction by cadres of the Kuki National Front-Presidential (KNF-P) from Leilon Vaiphei village.
According to TNL, on May 13, a total of 18 Liangmai Naga civilians, including women and children from Konsakhul, were allegedly abducted while passing through Leilon Vaiphei. Of them, 12 women hostages and two Salesian priests, who were also abducted from Sapermania, were later released in exchange for 14 Kuki detainees at Senapati. However, the remaining six villagers, including church leaders and workers, were reportedly killed, and their bodies were recovered on June 10.
The organisation described Konsakhul as a “victim village” still awaiting the return of the mortal remains of the deceased for customary burial rites, while also facing repeated armed threats from militant groups. TNL questioned the government’s priorities, alleging that instead of ensuring justice and apprehending the perpetrators, authorities had turned their attention toward the grieving villagers.
TNL further expressed concern over what it described as a “biased and hasty” use of force, stating that the main accused behind the abduction and killings remain at large. The committee urged the State and Central governments to take immediate and concrete steps to arrest all those involved and ensure they are brought to justice.
Calling the killings a “crime against humanity,” the TNL Working Committee demanded a tangible solution to the ongoing crisis and reiterated its appeal for accountability and justice for the slain villagers.
